I Took a Mental Health Break

I’ve been away from both YouTube for a year and away from my blog for a few months. I’m still here though, don’t worry! I’ve been taking the time to adjust to some personal life changes I’ve had to make. As well as try to maintain my mental health.

The mental health stigma

Mental health, as some of you may know, has not been spoken about on a large scale due to the stigma portrayed by society. Every day, we hear about people in mainstream media taking their lives due to anxiety and depression. On the other hand, we also hear about celebrities coming out with their own experiences with mental health illnesses.

YouTube and Vine star, Liza Koshy and her boyfriend David broke up after displaying a very affectionate, healthy, and thriving relationship online. It left a lot of their viewers wondering what went wrong — myself included. To which they responded with a video stating that Liza wanted to take some time to love herself before she could spread love to others.

You never know

The pretty brunette at the social gala last night, she’s actually suffering from anxiety. She looked like she was having a great time and was dancing and laughing all night long. But what you don’t know is the one or two shots of tequila she had to drink before getting to the venue.

While people may be smiling and appearing to be living their best life on social media, what they show on the outside may not reflect how they feel on the inside. This is the danger of the world having stigma towards mental health and why we need to raise the awareness of it. Some people suffering from a mental health issue is afraid to accept it, ask for help or confide in others.
